Hodge Podge A change of pace

- by June McInnes

Just lately we’ve been blessed with some good weather. Not usual for this area, we mostly get high winds and lots of rain, but that’s ok mostly, just sometimes when I go out I would love to be able to go somewhere without all the wet weather gear, nothing seems to dry out for long here and things have been known to blow off the line and end up in a neighbour’s garden. My tumble drier has a hard life drying towels.

So, with this bout of good weather we took the full advantage and did our outside painting of windows and stone surrounds and walls. The grass has had its first major haircut of the year and the few plants I inherited are growing strongly, getting ready to bloom. It’s looking much better now and I’m glad about that, the all-important kerb appeal is a vital part of selling your house.

Also, this week I tested my fingers after that bout of tendinitis on a little light crochet, success, I made a granny square and felt pretty proud I can tell you. It might not be much in the world of crafts but when you’ve been away from it for so long it’s a fantastic milestone.

Tomorrow is base board day, the fixing of it that is, another test for my fingers it’s the mitred cuts that do it, they make my fingers twang and I have to rest up the next day.

Good job it’s a small room and it will be another important job of the list and we will be all ready for the flooring to go down.

Soon I will be able to have a change of pace. I will be able to bake, vacuum all the normal things women of my age do, maybe even rest a bit. I have enjoyed doing the house but I’m glad it’s coming to an end. I would take on another project in the future though, so long as it’s not straight away. Good luck with any projects that you take on this year I hope they go as well as ours has.
