Yellow head County peace officers & Sasky Da Sasquatch highly visible during May long weekend
Several Yellowhead County Community Peace Officers (CPO’s) were making sure they were seen during the May long weekend while talking to residents and visitors who were in Yellowhead County’s backcountry participating in various recreational activities.
Here are a few highlights and statistics from their enforcement activities during the long weekend:
• Officers observed high rates of compliance with the new helmet requirements on OHV’s.
• Only four warnings were issued for not wearing helmets on OHV’s.
• Yellowhead County CPO’s conducted joint check stops and quad patrols in the West end of the County with RCMP, Parks, and Fish and Wildlife officers.
• Officers also conducted general traffic patrols throughout the County.
• The highest speed encountered on county roads was a vehicle travelling 140 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
• One suspended driver was found on county roads.
• County Peace Officers issued 46 warnings and 36 tickets for traffic and Gaming and Liquor Act offences.
County CPO’s were also handing out Sasky Da Sasquatch waterproof license and registration holders to OHV riders over the weekend. Sasky Da Sasquatch is part of the Welcome To Our Backyard campaign that is part of a multi-municipal education and awareness campaign that reminds recreational users to respect the local backcountry areas.
