Culvert Replacement - A tender for the replacement of a culvert on Township Road 570, West of Hwy 32 (for a tributary to the McLeod River) was awarded to Prairie Erectors International Inc. for $334,775.
Municipal Historic Designations Approved – Council approved applications for Municipal Historic Resource Designation for the Matthews United Church in Peers built in 1927 and the Cooper Barn, built in the 1950’s. This is a step towards declaring the sites a Municipal Historic Resource under the Historic Resources Act.
Public Golf Course Public Hearing – A Public Hearing for Bylaw 6.17 was held to rezone a property, located south of Hwy 16 near Millers Lake (SE06-53-19-W5,) from Rural District to Recreational Use District for a proposed public golf course. One letter was received expressing concern over increased traffic, dust, and property taxes, although there was a showing of support for this development during the public hearing.
Subdivision Public Hearing – A Public Hearing was held for Bylaw 07.17 for a property east of Edson (Part of the NW 19-5316-W5M) that would redistrict it from Rural District to Country Residential District zoning and allow for a five-acre subdivision to be separated from the current 70-acre parcel. No concerns from the Public were brought forward at the hearing.
Industrial Rezoning – Bylaw 08.17 received first reading for property located in the Branch Corner Area Structure Plan and designated as Industrial land under the Land Use Concept. Rezoning the property from Rural District (RD) to Rural Industrial District (RI) would allow for the expansion of the logging business located on the site. A Public Hearing will be held on July 25, 2017.
Hydro Energy Road Allowance Closure – A request by Turning Point Generation to close several undeveloped road allowances was granted by Council. The site if for a proposed pumped hydro energy storage facility located at the old Obed Mountain Coal Mine Operations site. The closure of the road allowance is required before the province can allow for this development can take place on Crown Land.
Property Tax Agreement – Yellowhead County has entered into property tax agreement with Notine Holdings Inc. to collect their 2017 property taxes.
Road Construction Extension – Council approved a time extension to Sun Gro Horticulture Ltd. for the completion of the road construction to RR 85 to September 30, 2017. A $307,500 letter of credit can be cashed by the County if the work is not completed by the deadline to cover the costs of any remaining road construction.
