Town of Edson and Yellowhead County Intermunicipal Development Plan update progress

-

The Town of Edson and Yellowhead County Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) review and update has completed background research and initial public consultation processes. The IDP is a long-range planning document that addresses the future development pattern within the fringe area around Edson. The majority of the IDP lands are located within Yellowhead County. The current IDP was adopted in 2007 and is under review to comply with recent changes in the Municipal Government Act and to revise the Plan to address developments which have occurred since 2007.

The initial public Open House was held at the Galloway Museum on May 17, 2017. Approximately 80 residents attended the presentation and participated in the Q&A. We extend our thanks to all who attended and provided input into the project. The Background Research and Population and Land Demand Reports, which were presented at the Open House, can be found on the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County websites.

The drafting of the updated IDP is now underway. Many of the policies in the 2007 IDP have been successfully incorporated in the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County Municipal Development Plans, Land Use Bylaws and/or Area Structure Plans. These redundant policies will be removed from the updated IDP to create a more concise and readable document. The IDP will also be rearranged in order to simplify the Plan and have all associated maps updated to reflect the current state of development in the IDP area.

An Open House to present the revised Intermunicipal Development Plan will be held of August 16 at 6:30p.m. at the Galloway Museum. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend. The Draft IDP will be available for viewing on the Town and County websites after the Open House date.
