Elect Kristie Gomuwka as Public Trustee
Kristie Gomuwka is seeking nomination for Public Trustee in Ward 1 of Grande Yellowhead School Division.
“As a parent with a child in the GYPSD system, I will bring a different perspective to division.” said Gomuwka on what she will offer the Grande Yellowhead School Division.
This is Kristie Gomuwka’s first run at an elected position. As a long time resident of Edson and a Director of the largest non profit organization in Edson, Gomuwka provides a deep understanding of the community. She has worked on many initiatives through GYPSD including Violence Threat Risk Assessment Community Protocol, Indigenous Community Engagement Committee, and Program unit Funding. Kristie is committed to strong community development and encouraging meaningful engagement with stakeholders and community.
Gomuwka’s platform includes:
• Ensuring that funding classrooms and students remains a priority; and all schools are equipped with the resources needed to succeed.
• Improve community and parent engagement at the decision making level that includes finding new and innovative ways to improve accessibility to public meetings such as video recording and live streaming all public meetings.
• Create stronger transparency and accountability to decision made by trustees.
“I believe we need to improve the relevance of the role of trustees in the educational system. We need to find a path forward where the community can be an active decision maker in the future direction of GYPSD.”
Kristie is married with a 13 year old daughter. She is the Director of Programs and Services at the Edson Friendship Centre and sits on various community and regional committees.
