Supports for Students

Facility Services provided their regular update to the board on the current capital project in the division: the new replacement school in Edson, Mary Bergeron Elementary. The gymnasium has been completed and was turned over to an excited school to use the week of October 23. Last minute finishing work continues in the learning commons with painting, flooring and millwork over the next couple of weeks. The old A.H. Dakin School has been demolished, and the removal and cleanup of the site to prepare for the new bus lane continues dependent on weather conditions.

The board approved Trustees Caputo, Rosadiuk and Zaporosky to attend the National School Boards’ Association annual conference in San Antonio, Texas on April 7-9, 2018. Chair Rosadiuk noted “This conference is an excellent professional development for trustees to learn more about global news in regards to public education, and receive information about new resources and tools to help move our division forward.”

Dale Karpluk, trustee from Jasper, gave an update from her recent attendance at a Zone 2/3 meeting at the Alberta School Boards’ Association.

Trustee Shirley Caputo from Hinton has applied to be one of two trustees chosen from the province to be part of the Alberta School Boards’ Insurance Exchange advisory board.
