Exciting evening for Yellowhead AG Society AGM

The 2017 AGM for the Yellowhead Agricultural Society had a great turnout this year. The attendees enjoyed the roast beef supper provided by the Best Western Inn in Edson. The Board welcomed many new faces and are looking forward to another successful year.

Shelley Pratt was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award, in memory of Michelle MacRae and Joanna James. To honour Shelley’s tireless dedication to the success of the YAS Concession, she will enjoy a weekend trip to Jasper, thanks to our award sponsors.

The highlight of the night was the unveiling of the future “Edson Agricultural Events Centre”, a 71,000 sq ft Indoor Arena that is being constructed at the Rodeo Grounds in the very near future. Plans to commence construction in 2018 are underway, with the design and budget having recently been approved by the Society members.

The YAS Building Committee have been planning this new facility for many years and is very excited to see it starting to come to fruition. The usage of the existing indoor arena over the past 8 years has increased by 700 per cent, largely due to the many upgrades that have been done, i.e. insulation, equipment, dirt, and lighting. However, the current facility is aged and is no longer able to support the demands or needs of the membership and a new facility with the ability to host events with larger attendance, indoor plumbing, and user versatility is greatly needed for the Edson and Yellowhead County area.

Funding plans are underway with the guidance of Performance Sponsorship Group, Inc. and construction guidance is being provided by McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd.
