Hodge Podge Old and new? by June McInnes

- June McInnes

New Years resolutions? Nope, not me. I’m just going to stay as I am.

No gym for me. I’ve done all that in the past and a few years ago I decided not to go that route anymore. I’ve got a few years on the clock now so to speak and more than my fair share of old injuries that we all carry, so that’s it, I’ve drawn that line in the sand.

I’d love to be slim and athletic, but with my height or lack of it, advanced years and genetic predisposition I know it’s never going to happen. But that’s ok, I think I’ve finally made peace with myself and maybe even friends. I’ve come to an agreement not to make it do physical jerks if it doesn’t punish me with aches and pains. So far, I think we’re keeping to each other’s bargain. What’s so bad about being me anyway? I know I’m a bit over weight, but I could be a lot worse off than I am right now and I’m thankful for being able to do what I can do.

So, what am I going to do with all the time I save not being at the gym? Thats a very good question. I could go for walks or swim, gentle cardio stuff like that. I’ve decided to take a supplement, one that will stop my knees from feeling like they are constantly being filed away with a palm sander. I’ve taken a good look at what I’m eating and changed that too.

I already drink plenty of water so that’s fine, so no change there. Going to moisturize more though. Being kind to yourself doesn’t have to mean tough love and rough stuff.

I’ve decide to craft more in my spare time if I can. I love to knit and sew, crochet paint and draw. There are so many things to try out there, craft wise, so I might look into a few new ones I haven’t tried yet. And there is always a new recipe to try.

So, looking back over this year it wasn’t all good and it wasn’t all bad. We achieved a lot as a family though. The time wasn’t wasted. On the whole, it has been good, can’t say fairer than that can you? This coming year I’m hoping it will be better than the last, like everyone does, all you optimists out there, hope springs eternal, right? Let’s hope this really will be a happy New Year for us all. I know it won’t be for some, but I can at least hope. Time to go for a walk if it’s not too cold.

Happy New Year everyone.
