Edson Town Council updates
Jan. 16 meeting
Public Hearing. A public hearing was held for Bylaw 2210, to redistrict two pieces of land at 15th Avenue and 63rd Street to better suit the nature of the lots and to allow for a future small expansion to the business. There were no submissions and no one in attendance to speak to the matter. Council gave second and third reading to the bylaw following the hearing.
Delegations. Yellowhead MP Jim Eglinski gave a brief presentation to Council on the Conservative Party’s plans for the next session, as well as some of the effects the new marijuana legislation may have. He also outlined some of the lobbying he’s doing on behalf of the Yellowhead riding, including dealing with the Mountain Pine Beetle and CN Rail crossings. Council thanked Mr. Eglinski for his continued work for this region, and wished him well in retirement as he recently announced this will be his last term as MP.
Council also heard from the West Yellowhead Community Violence Threat Risk Assessment and Intervention Protocol Group (VTRA). They gave a brief presentation to Council to explain what the group does and what type of threats they respond to, as well as confirm support moving forward.
Potential Sale of the Recreation Complex. Council was presented with an updated Request for Proposal document for the potential sale of the Edson and District Recreation Complex. The document now outlines the need for a one page “executive summary” to be included that will be made public, as well as clarification on the confidential nature of the required Council presentations. Some weighting in the RFP was also changed to put less emphasis on the purchase price and more weight on the facility vision. The RFP will close February 16th, 2018 and is available on our website at www.edson.ca/town/tenders.
