Funding opportunity for farms hiring youth

- Special to the Post

Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, is pleased to inform local farm operators and employers in the agricultural sector that the Agricultural Youth Green Jobs Initiative application period is now open.

Projects can start on April 1, 2018 with the possibility of starting earlier based on available funding. Projects must also be completed by March 31, 2019.

The Agricultural Youth Green Jobs Initiative helps fund internships for postsecondary graduates and high school students working in the agriculture industry. These internships include activities or projects that benefit the environment.

Funding is available through the following two streams:

1. Green Farms Stream: Farm operators could receive up to a maximum of $10,000 per youth intern, 30 years old or younger, including high school students to implement projects that are environmentally beneficial.

2. Green Internships Stream: Employers in the agricultural sector but not directly on a farm could receive up to a maximum of $16,000 per post-secondary graduate intern to undertake environmental activities, services or research that will benefit the agriculture sector.

Interested applicants can apply by email to: AAFC. Green.j obsStage. en.agroenvironnement.AAC@agr.gc.ca, mail or fax by submitting the completed Project Application Form and required attachments to the Alberta regional office. These forms, and more information, can be found on the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada website at: www.agr.gc.ca/eng/ programs-and-services/list-of-programsand-services/agricultural-youth-green-jobsinitiative/?id=1459879253586

“I encourage any local farms operators or employers in the agricultural sector to consider applying for this opportunity to invest into our youth and familiarize them with local agriculture,” concluded MP Eglinski.
