Older adult mistreatment—It’s not right!
This presentation will teach neighbours, friends, and family members how to recognize and confront elder abuse.
Mistreatment and abuse can be a difficult topic to address, but we all agree that we have a role to play in curtailing the suffering of others.
When older adults experience mistreatment, you can be the neighbour, friend, or family member who makes a positive difference. This presentation can help you recognize the warning signs of older adult mistreatment, and give you tips on intervening in a safe and respectful manner.
Join Charlene Sitar, the Regional Elder Abuse Prevention Coordinator, for this community presentation on March 8, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Peers Multiplex and from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Evansburg Heritage House. Neighbours, friends, and family can learn to do three things: 1. SEE it! Recognize the warning signs of abuse. “It’s not right!” 2. NAME it! Name your concern. “I’m worried about you.”
3. CHECK it! Ask questions, check with professionals, check for danger, and help with safety planning. “What can I do to help?”
Let’s get together and find out how our community of neighbours, friends, and families can help curb older adult abuse. After all, community means looking out for the safety and well-being of one another.
