Feb. 7 meeting
Trustees approved an amendment to Policy 7- Board Operations, to reflect the current costs associated with the technology and telecommunication fees that are required to fulfill the role of the trustee.
Ken Baluch, Director of Facility Services, updated the board on the many initiatives under the division’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program. These include accident trend analysis and injury summary reports, the monitoring of school/ facility safety meetings, continued application of OHS training courses, and site safety inspections. A report on the schools’ cleanliness ratings and custodial contracts were also presented as information to the board from Facility Services.
The board was pleased to hear from Carolyn Lewis, Superintendent of Schools, on the number of community organizations that use division schools on a regular basis from indoor soccer clubs to playschools. “Our schools are the centre of our communities, and it is great to know that our community members are utilizing our facilities for all to benefit,” noted Board Chair Brenda Rosadiuk.
As part of their monthly work plan, trustees went over the next two months’ schedule to ensure that upcoming events are represented by the board in key areas.
Trustee Zaporosky received approval to rescind her attendance at an upcoming National School Board Associations’ conference in April, 2018.
The next Public Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Education Services Centre in Edson.
