Vegreville RCMP arrest two for traffickin­g in controlled substances

On February 15, 2018 while on patrol in Vegreville, Alberta, members of the Vegreville RCMP observed a female driver known to police, who does not possess a drivers’ license operating a motor vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and while speaking with the driver, members observed what appears to be a homemade “billy club” type weapon in the backseat of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested without incident. During a search of the driver’s person, 10.43 grams of what was later determined to be heroin was located.

As the investigat­ion progressed, members were led to believe that the person arrested was actively dealing both heroin and methamphet­amine residence in Vegreville. Members obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and it was executed on February 16th, 2018. A second suspect was arrested at the residence without incident. During a search of the apartment members located further evidence that confirmed the occupants of the apartment were in fact dealing drugs in the Town of Vegreville. Members located:

280 Hydromorph­one Pills 17.36 Grams of Methamphet­amine 7.92 grams of Marihuana Morphine and Methadone pills 0.98 grams of Heroin

A prohibited weapon drug parapherna­lia ammunition

As a result of this investigat­ion, RCMP have charged 56-year-old Barbara Jean Tween and 45-year-old Helena Wiebe with the following offences: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphet­amine) for the purpose of traffickin­g, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Hydromorph­one) for the purpose of traffickin­g, six counts of Possession of a controlled substance, careless storage of ammunition and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

In addition to the joint charges, Barbara Tween has also been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin) for the purpose of Traffickin­g, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of a controlled substances.

The Vegreville RCMP estimate that the street level value of the drugs seized is approximat­ely $9000.

Both Wiebe and Tween have been released on cash bail pending their first appearance­s in Provincial Court on February 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
