Cable theft: A community problem

-

Cable thieves are disrupting internet coverage in <ellowhead County’s communities. The County urges all residents to report suspicious activity and severed cables. The internet keeps our communities in touch and informed. It can entertain, answer questions, and offer advice. But it also allows our remote communities to access services, such as banking, from home. Though <ellowhead County continues to provide and improve upon internet service infrastructure, communities must work together to prevent the theft of cable²and stop internet outages. Cable thieves are criminal opportunists who are willing to disrupt internet coverage for entire communities just to make a few dollars from selling copper wiring. If you see a person acting suspiciously around temporary cabling, please dial -1-1 and report your concern. As well, if you notice a severed cable, please call 10-288 , or 10-C8TS to report a repair. After all, protecting the cabling in your community means protecting access to one of our basic human rights: Internet access. 3lease spread this message throughout your community²no community should have to suffer because of the greed of criminals. <ellowhead County will continue to patrol known theft areas, but the county’s effort will be all the more effective if all communities are proactive in protecting this crucial utility.
