Two Jasper residents charged with impaired driving offences: Jasper RCMP

-

- In less than 3 hours, Jasper RCMP officers located and arrested two impaired drivers and charged one suspended driver.

On March 5, 2018 at approximately 12:15 AM, Jasper RCMP stopped a vehicle on Connaught Drive and conducted a sobriety check with the driver. The male driver was placed on an approved screening device and the result warranted an alcohol related roadside suspension. Police also determined that the driver was suspended from driving. The 21 year old male from Morinville was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for driving while suspended and his vehicle was seized for a period of 30 days. Two hours later, Jasper RCMP stopped a vehicle on Geikie Street and conducted a sobriety check with the driver. Police became suspicious that the driver had consumed alcohol and demanded that the driver provide a sample of his breath in an approved screening device. The 51 year old Jasper resident failed to comply and was charged under the Criminal Code for failing to comply with an approved screening device demand. His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized.

Shortly after, while police were still dealing with the previous male, officers observed a vehicle driving by and recognized the driver as being a patron in one of the local bars that night. An officer stopped the vehicle and the driver was placed on an approved screening device. The 52 year old Jasper resident failed the test and was subsequently arrested. He was transported to the Jasper Detachment where he provided additional samples of his breath. He was then charged under the Criminal Code with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized.

Both Jasper residents are set to appear in Jasper Provincial Court on April 12 and April 26, 2018. Jasper RCMP officers continue to be out in full force every day and every night in an attempt to locate and remove impaired drivers from our roads and ensure safe driving behaviours of all motorists. The Jasper RCMP also encourages you to call 911 if you suspect a driver is impaired.
