-

Following two separate driving investigations, the RCMP have laid charges against two residents. Identifying impaired drivers continues to be a priority for the Jasper RCMP.

On March 20 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Jasper RCMP stopped a vehicle on Geikie Street and conducted a sobriety check with the driver. Police became suspicious that the driver had consumed alcohol and demanded that the driver provide a sample of his breath in an approved screening device. The 80 year old Jasper resident refused and was subsequently charged under the Criminal Code for refusing to comply with an approved screening device demand. His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized.

On March 25 at approximately 9 p.m., Jasper RCMP stopped a vehicle on Balsam Avenue and conducted a sobriety check with the driver who had been observed drinking at a local pub earlier in the evening. Police had suspicions that the driver had alcohol in his body and demanded that the driver provide a sample of his breath in an approved screening device. The 63 year old Jasper resident refused and was therefore charged under the Criminal Code for refusing to comply with an approved screening device demand. His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized.

Both accused are set to appear in Jasper Provincial Court on April 26th and May 10th, 2018. Jasper RCMP officers continue to be out in full force every day and every night in an attempt to locate and remove impaired drivers from our roads and ensure safe driving behaviours of all motorists. The Jasper RCMP encourages you to call 911 if you suspect a driver is impaired.
