Jumanji« Modernized

- William McInnes The McLeod River Post

This week a review about jumanji :elcome to the jungle directed by -ake .asdan. Jumanji welcome to the Jungle is the next installment of the long-awaited jumanji sequel, which released in . Fans of the original have waited years for a sequel, and it feels like it was not worth the wait

Jumanji welcome to the j-ungle is a story about four teenagers who all play a more than obvious stereotypes, the jock, the geek, the outsider and the popular girl. (ach go to the same school and on the same day for different reasons find themselves in detention. 7heir punishment is to remove staples from many maga]ines but end up being distracted when the jock finds an old console in a box with four controllers and a cartridge already inside called jumanji. 7hey turn on the console and slowly all four agree to play and choose their characters only to find themselves in the game as the avatars they have chosen and begin a Tuest that they are forced to finish if they wish to leave, their mission, lift the curse from jumanji.

0aybe it was just me but when I learned that the dynamic duo Dwayne -ohnson and .evin Hart were stars in the film I thought that maybe it could get better, but it didn’t. 7he stroppy teen characters played in the ³real world´ were carried on into the game only to be played by Dwayne -ohnson the geek , .evin Hart the jock , -ack %lack the popular girl and .aren *illan the outsider which was more than a little disappointing. I feel they tried too hard to relate to the younger generation and failed to incorporate anything for the older generation. 7hat being said it was a massive hit at the box office which raked in over . million 8SD, so maybe it is just me. However, there was a few places where the duo still made me laugh, the most memorable when they are on the cliff.

If you are an adult looking to revisit nostalgic memories, it is best to just steer clear of the film and keep your fond memories of the original untainted by this more than poor attempt to revisit the franchise. However, if you just want a good family friendly film to go to then go ahead, just don’t expect to enjoy the film too much.
