MLA Oneil Carlier tours $25/day child care centre
Oneil Carlier, MLA for Whitecourt-Ste. Anne, has seen first-hand the benefits of highquality, affordable child care in his community, and heard the same from the parents who are getting the help.
Carlier met with Whitecourt Early Learning and Child Care director Crystal McGeough and several families at the centre, which is now offering 53 affordable child care spaces thanks to a grant from the Government of Alberta.
“As a parent, I know full well the importance of affordable childcare. It is wonderful to see the expansion of the $25/day childcare program to Whitecourt - it ensures that families have the support that they need, and keeps jobs in the community. Ultimately, through this program, the Alberta Government is working to make life better and more affordable for families in Whitecourt-Ste. Anne, and across the province.”

“Child care is very expensive. This program makes it much easier to afford, especially for single parents.”
- Brigitte Giroux, parent
“This program has made a huge difference to parents who are struggling to make ends meet, particularly single parents.”
- Crystal McGeough, WELCC director
This spring, the Premier Rachel Notley and Children’s Services Minister Danielle Larivee announced 100 new affordable Early Learning and Child Care Centres across the province
would be added to the existing 22 centres that opened last year as part of a province-wide pilot project.
There are now a total of 7,300 affordable early learning and child care spaces across the province offered at no more than $25/day,
which is expected to create 450 child-care jobs and empower more than 1,400 parents to enter or re-enter the workforce.
