Taylor seeking nomination for UCP in West Yellowhead
A campaign veteran and past council member from Hinton, Stuart Taylor, says he is intending to seek the nomination to be the United Conservative candidate in West Yellowhead for the next provincial election.
Taylor grew up in Alberta, earned a Bachelor of Science degree ( forestry) from the University of Alberta, and a Master’s in Natural Resource Management from the University of Northern British Columbia. For more than 30 years, he was a registered professional forester (now retired) working as a Senior Manager with the Government of Alberta. He has successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets in an atmosphere of financial constraint.
Taylor has been active in politics for the better part of a decade, in a variety of executive roles. He finished a stint on Hinton Town Council where he distinguished himself as what some called a fiscally conservative anchor on council. During Taylor’s four year term, net municipal taxes increased by only 1.2 per cent, or less than the rate of the increase in the CPI.
Additionally, about 5 - 10 per cent of the administrative staff and management positions were reduced, which saved taxpayers thousands of dollars – without any drop in service delivery, and the town administration adopted a more business friendly, responsive and less regulatory approach to businesses in town.
Taylor was instrumental in facilitating the removal of an inappropriate photo radar corner (road tax) near the very edge of Hinton. The radar trap was in a section of highway with no safety concerns and took in $1.7 million in a year from the pockets of Albertans.
Taylor has championed information disclosure, transparency/accountability, and respect for the voters on projects of large dollar values. He says the Province needs to improve its regulatory, taxation and investment climate, and that citizens deserve a multi-million tax break by repealing the carbon and business taxes.
“Repealing the carbon tax will help bring back the market advantage to businesses in Alberta,” he said.
