Local students from varied fields of study receive Rotary Scholarships

From education to engineering, six communityminded students who received scholarships from the Rotary Club of Edson will have a bit of help to pursue their dreams.
“The Rotary Club of Edson and been awarding local students scholarships annually for the last 14 years,” said Lorraine Symes – Youth Services Chair. “This year we have a great group of young people who are volunteers in the community and are committed to ‘service above self,’ the Rotary motto.”
The Rotary Club of Edson is pleased to announce the 2018 annual scholarship recipients.
Harrison Smith will be attending the University of Calgary and his long term goal is to obtain a medical Degree and work as a rural family physician.
Ty Barford is attending the University of Alberta and eventually plans to practice law.
Josie Sorensen is also attending the U of A and majoring in Biology. Her goal is to become a teacher with plans to teach internationally.
Rebecca Harrison is also enrolled the U of A in the Bachelor of Education program in elementary education and hopes to teach in a rural setting.
Ethan Heise is pursuing a degree in Engineering at the U of A, with the possibility of completing a Master’s Degree.
Ryan Huxter will also be studying engineering at the U of A through the mechanical engineering co-op program.
The Rotary Club awards local students about $5,000 annually to local students who are involved in community services and volunteer in the area.
