Local students from varied fields of study receive Rotary Scholarshi­ps

From education to engineerin­g, six communitym­inded students who received scholarshi­ps from the Rotary Club of Edson will have a bit of help to pursue their dreams.

“The Rotary Club of Edson and been awarding local students scholarshi­ps annually for the last 14 years,” said Lorraine Symes – Youth Services Chair. “This year we have a great group of young people who are volunteers in the community and are committed to ‘service above self,’ the Rotary motto.”

The Rotary Club of Edson is pleased to announce the 2018 annual scholarshi­p recipients.

Harrison Smith will be attending the University of Calgary and his long term goal is to obtain a medical Degree and work as a rural family physician.

Ty Barford is attending the University of Alberta and eventually plans to practice law.

Josie Sorensen is also attending the U of A and majoring in Biology. Her goal is to become a teacher with plans to teach internatio­nally.

Rebecca Harrison is also enrolled the U of A in the Bachelor of Education program in elementary education and hopes to teach in a rural setting.

Ethan Heise is pursuing a degree in Engineerin­g at the U of A, with the possibilit­y of completing a Master’s Degree.

Ryan Huxter will also be studying engineerin­g at the U of A through the mechanical engineerin­g co-op program.

The Rotary Club awards local students about $5,000 annually to local students who are involved in community services and volunteer in the area.
