Worldwide Coalition Against Islam (WCAI) and the Cultural Action Party (CAP) Planned a rally in Vancouver on August 19th at Vancouver City Hall. The organizers expressed “This will be our first ever rally in Vancouver, WCAI founder Joey De will be making the trip out to speak. Brad Salzberg from Cap will be there as well as soldiers of odin. It should be a great rally you don’t want to miss.” The rally was supposed to have speakers from several anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups. The group is not shy to state on their Facebook account: WCAI Canada on August 4 at 4:31pm Facebook posted “If you punch someone over their cowardly ways or culture mistakes, always film it so everyone will know they deserved it.” Joey De Luca -president of WCAI group and Jesse Wielenga the vice-president, planned the event. On WCAI Canada’s Twitter account the group states their aim is “standing against the barbarics of the ideology that is Islam. Stands against globalism. Stands for Canadian culture preservation.” Vancouver-Kingsway MP Don Davies, called on the City to cancel permission to the WCAI stating that “it’s clear the event’s organizers are motivated by what happened in Charlottesville, Va and they “intend on spreading hatred and inciting violence.” John Horgan in a statement on Friday August 18th said Hate has no place in our prov- ince. We reject all forms of racism, discrimination, intolerance and bigotry.” When the News broke out about the WACI rally, an adhoc group planned a counter rally: Oppose the Racists in Metro Vancouver! Hosted by Stand Up to Racism Metro Vancouver The rally by WCAI promoted as Anti Immigration Protest never really got started as Vancouverites stormed and washed out the anti immigrant protestors. About 2000 people planned to attend the rally on Facebook but actual numbers were more than 4000 by some estimates 5000 compared to about 100 who expressed interest in the WCAI rally of which about 50 plus or so showed up and were completely out shadowed by the oppose rally. The crowd was very passionate chanting “Racist Racist go away. Send him home, Bye Bye Hater.” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his excitement on his twitter “Way to go, Vancouver. Diversity will always be our strength,” he wrote. From the Muslim community Br Haroon Khan, Sister Nour Youssef and few others spoke out against racism and thanked all the those who showed up to show solidarity in support of diversity and inclusion. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Roberston present at the rally condemned the far-right event saying “hate and racism have no place in this city.” Lets build the love and the understating.”
