In October, Cana­di­ans cel­e­brate Cana­dian Is­lamic His­tory Month. On Satur­day October 14, 2017 The B.C. Mus­lim As­so­ci­a­tion marked its 10th an­niver­sary of cel­e­brat­ing this very im­por­tant event at Masjid As Salaam and Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­ter. . Well over 300 peo­ple, in­clud­ing act­ing mayor of Burn­aby, Sarb Dhali­war and am­bas­sadors of Pak­istan and Turkey at­tended cel­e­brate and to hear the key note speaker Dr. Amal Ghazal, Si­mon Fraser Univer­sity direc­tor for Com­par­a­tive Study of Mus­lim So­ci­eties and Cul­tures pre­sented an hour talk on the topic “from Mus­lim Em­pire to Na­tion-States: The cre­ation of borders and the mak­ing of iden­ti­ties in the twen­ti­eth cen­tury” Min­is­ter Jolly on her Oct. 1st, 2017 state­ment said “To­day, we cel­e­brate the 10 th an­niver­sary of Ca- na­dian Is­lamic His­tory Month. En­acted by the Par­lia­ment of Canada in 2007, this month of­fers Cana­di­ans an un­prece­dented op­por­tu­nity to hon­our our large Mus­lim-Cana­dian community and rec­og­nize their valu­able con­tri­bu­tions in shap­ing and build­ing our coun­try. This year, as we mark Canada 150, we have the op­por­tu­nity to cel­e­brate our coun­try’s di­ver­sity and spirit of open­ness. We are com­mit­ted to main­tain­ing an in­clu­sive and wel­com­ing so­ci­ety that pro­motes re­spect for ev­ery­one, re­gard­less of faith or eth­nic ori­gin. As Min­is­ter of Cana­dian Her­itage and Min­is­ter re­spon­si­ble for Mul­ti­cul­tur­al­ism, I in­vite Cana­di­ans of all back­grounds to par­tic­i­pate in the events and ac­tiv­i­ties that cel­e­brate Is­lamic His­tory Month”.
