Ethnic Cleansing In Palestine – What’s Going on
Now that the burst of energy from social media has died down dow and we have all the facts, I’d like to talk t about something thin serious happening pen in the world right righ now. Something serious that’s been happening for a very long time now. For a time, Arab Muslims, Arab Christians, and Arab Jews lived peacefully together, especially in Jerusalem. The three religions share historic landmarks and even worship side by side displaying unity and respect amongst the groups.
After the holocaust (WW2) antisemitism in Europe grew and many Jews were kicked out of their homes, making them refugees. Palestine took in most of these Jewish refugees but as antisemitism grew worse in Europe, the Zionist movement began in the 19th century. This is an ideology that wants a Jewish only state. To get rid of the Jews in Europe, Britain interfered and decided to give away Palestinian land to the European Jews without consulting with the UN, surrounding countries or even Palestine themselves. This is where the problems began.
Eventually, temporary peace was made and land was divided but the Zionists wanted more. And they kept wanting more. The UN and Britain stepped in once again to divide the land yet still, the Zionists ended up getting the land with all the agriculture and othoth er vital resources but the Palestinians were left with nothing. Soon enough, Palestinians were denied resources and their homes were illegally occupied. In 1948, the founding of the state of Israel in Palestine was announced. Today, there are approximately 7 million Palestinian refugees. Present day Palestinians cannot leave the country or access transportation, and medical help, voting rights, and clean water is inaccessible. Palestinians have been protesting for decades and even now as a ceasefire holds, citizens are saying their goodbyes and fearing for their lives. For 11 days of May, Israel has attacked Palestine harder than ever before, fighter jets and warplanes heavily bombing and shelling residences, schools and even media buildings. On only May 22, the death toll stood at 248 including 66 children, along with 1900 others wounded from Israeli air and artillery attacks. This rocket fire killed about 12 Israelis 2 of which were children. The illegal occupation and control of Palestine by Zionists cannot be justified in any way. Palestinians have lost the human right to basic safety, this is ethnic cleansing and it needs to be stood up against.
