Serious Incident Response Team investigat­ing arrest in Pictou Landing

Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigat­ing after a Pictou Landing man was injured during an arrest.

The Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in Pictou Landing at 6:20 a.m. on Friday.

When police arrived, they observed a 22-year-old Pictou Landing male who had been stabbed. He was transporte­d to hospital in New Glasgow with non life-threatenin­g injuries.

A short time later, a 32-yearold Pictou Landing male was arrested and placed in police custody. During the arrest, a struggle ensued in which the man suffered an injury to his collarbone, police said in a press release.

He was transporte­d to hospital for treatment and later returned to police custody.

The Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit and Pictou County District RCMP are still investigat­ing the stabbing.

The RCMP issued a release Friday night, stating that they were referring the matter to SiRT.

“Given the matter is now being investigat­ed by SiRT, the RCMP is unable to discuss further details about the arrest,” the release said.
