Scotians have weekend home-and-home with Privateers

- BY KEVIN ADSHADE

Coming off their first win of the season, the Pictou County Junior Scotians would like to keep things going as they head into a pair of weekend games against the Liverpool Privateers.

“We built some momentum going into this weekend,” with the win against Strait, said assistant captain Blair Dewtie.

“It got our wheels going and gave us some confidence.”

The two teams will play in Liverpool on Saturday night, before a Sunday night game at Trenton rink, when the Privateers come north for a 7 p.m. tilt.

Both Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League clubs are 1-2-1 on the season.

Last Sunday’s 6-3 win win over the Pirates came two days after they took it on the chin in East Hants, an 8-1 loss to the Penguins.

“We’re a quick team and we have a lot of skill, but we have to play a 60-minute game. In East Hants, right from the puck drop it seemed like we didn’t have our legs,” Dewtie said.

“On Sunday, we were a completely different team.”

Leading the Scotians in scoring are Gaetan Tremblay (3G, 2A), Jacob Pentz (2G, 2A) and William Kelly (2G, 2A), while the Privateers are led up front by Derek Nelson and Connor McDougall, who have six and five points respectively.

Kelly and Ryan Dunfield are expected to miss Saturday’s game with nagging injuries, coach Al Whidden reported, and starting goaltender Brandon MacDonald has work commitments on Saturday.
