CEO of Pictou County YMCA has been charged with assault, has taken voluntary leave of absence in meantime
MacIntyre off on voluntary leave of absence following charges
David MacIntyre, CEO of the Pictou County YMCA, has been charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm.
MacIntyre was charged in relation to an incident that took place on or about Jan. 31, 2017, in Broadway.
The 48-year-old appeared in court last week and was released from custody with conditions.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 21.
RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said the incident is reported to have taken place around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 and police were made aware of it around 2 a.m. on Feb. 1.
The alleged victim was treated at hospital.
Since he was charged, MacIntyre has taken a voluntary leave of absence from the YMCA, said board of directors chairperson Jim Cooke.
Cooke said MacIntyre’s responsibilities have been divided among senior management staff at the Y and if assistance or direction is needed, the board members have offered their support.
He said the board’s priority right now is supporting the staff and volunteers at the Y.
MacIntyre was appointed as CEO of the Pictou County YMCA in February 2013. Prior to that he had been general manager of the YMCA for four years.
He was head coach of the Weeks Major Midgets from 2008 until 2014.
MacIntyre also had an extensive hockey career. He played four years for the University of New Hampshire. Afterward he played for the American Hockey League, the East Coast Hockey League, and the International Hockey League, as well as professional hockey in Europe.
