Bantam Memorial Tournament hands out awards
Awards in memory of three Pictou County hockey players and a mother killed in a motor vehicle accident were given out as the 33rd annual Bantam Memorial Tournament also held to remember them concluded this weekend at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
In the Bantam AA division, the Top Defenceman award in memory of Shawn and Lee Marie McKay went to Cameron Stewart of the Sackville Flyers, while the Top Goaltender award in memory of Donald Gladwin went to Ross Bezeau of the EDZA South Seadogs. The Top Scorer trophy in memory of John MacDonald was awarded to Carter McCluskey of the EDZA South Seadogs, who also won Tournament MVP.
In the Bantam A division, the McKay Trophy for Top Defenceman was awarded to Cadelin Rose of the Shelburne County Flames, the Gladwin Trophy for Top Goaltender was given to Devon Nickerson of the Shelburne County Flames and the MacDonald Trophy for Top Scorer was awarded to Craig Landry of the Antigonish Bulldogs.
Captain Sam Hickey of the Wonder Auto and Tire Pictou County Bantam AA Crushers team was named an All-Star Team forward for his division, and defenceman Kenyon Greene, captain of the Pictou County Crushers Red, and forward Andrew Goswell of the Pictou County Crushers White were named to the Bantam A All-Star Team.
First presented in 2008, the Pictou County Crushers I.C.E. Award is given to a local player who best exemplifies Intensity, Contribution and Effort throughout the tournament. Hickey won the Pictou County Crushers I.C.E. Award for the Bantam AA division, while Dominic Bond of Pictou County White and Kaleb Clarke of Pictou County Red received the Bantam A awards.
