Centre needs fresh suggestions

-

We have all heard the saying ‘build it and they will come’ and yes they did build it but they did not come. But what did come was a huge bill of expense every year for the Wellness Centre. It only stands to reason – we already had several rinks in Pictou. So why did we need one called the Wellness Centre?

If one is sick and wanted to get well they would go to a doctor or the local hospital not the Wellness Centre for there is nothing there to make you well.

Just what is to be done about the debt that keeps falling into place at the Wellness Centre? The deficit for 2016 stands at $870,000. Up until now it looks like the centre has been run rag-tag with little or no leadership.

Just to point out a few things: no sidewalks leading to the centre and no public transportation there.

You must have a manager who is a go-getter, not one who sits behind a desk. You have to have more to offer than two ice rinks. For if one goes fishing you must have a fishhook with bait on it. So the same thing applies to the Wellness Centre, you have to have the right bait to bring people in as well headliners from show business.

Now it looks like the new board members taking over may have some good leadership in place for most of them have a business background. And we must not forget to ask the taxpayers for their input since there are a lot of suggestions they have as to what they want at the centre. So I wish the new board good luck.
