Town council upholds appeal
PICTOU – Pictou town council has upheld an appeal of an occupancy permit for a residence with the town. Council held a public hearing Wednesday during which time the owner of the property at 235 Beeches Road in Pictou said repairs and maintenance has been done the small home that involved new electrical work, plumbing, and roof. However, council agreed that since it was still not hooked up to electricity by Nova Scotia Power, doesn’t have a primary heat source or running water, it failed to meet the minimum requirements of the town’s occupancy standards. “As of now, people shouldn’t’ be living there until the appropriate adjustments are made,” said Pictou Mayor Jim Ryan, adding the reason why the town has occupancy standards is so that people have safe places to live.
