Together we celebrate the life of Marlene Elizabeth MacLellan, 69, a single mother, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother and friend to many as she has gone to her heavenly home on Feb. 16, 2017, after a long courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side. Her love of Jesus, faith in Him, and her love for family and friends never wavered. Marlene passed away at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital, Edmonton.

Our Mum grew up in Sutherland’s River. She lived in New Glasgow, NS. Marlene then moved to Alberta to be with her sons.

She received her education from East Pictou Rural High School, Bachelor of Arts (History) at St. Mary’s University, Halifax and Bachelor of Education at The Kings University College, Edmonton.

Marlene had a passion for teaching and learning that she received from her mother. She begun as a child playing school, then when she was a single mother became a leader/educator/volunteer in various groups to be involved and support her sons in their education. She installed in her sons and grandchild­ren how important it is to read and continuall­y learn about the world around us. She taught in Atikameg a First Nation School in Northern Alberta and Swan Hills, Alberta, and substitute­d in various schools in Pictou County, NS.

Marlene is survived by her two sons Micheal (Tannis) MacLellan, Edmonton; Roy (Carol) MacLellan, Red Deer, Alta.; grandchild­ren Sean MacLellan (Rose Fedoruk), Edmonton; Ryan, Mark, Red Deer, Alta.; Clara, Statira, Palmer and greatgrand­daughter Elizabeth all from Edmonton. She will be dearly missed by her parents Palmer and Violet MacLellan, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, N.S.; sister Brenda (Jackie) Fraser, Eden Lake, N.S., brothers Stephen MacLellan, Truro; Kevin MacLellan (Heather Halliday), Foxbrook, N.S.; Marlene leaves behind many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on March 4, 2017, in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Caroline Barclay officiatin­g. A reception will follow.

Donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Master’s Hand Ministry.
