Activities busy at New Glasgow 55+ Club

The New Glasgow 55+ Club held their monthly meeting March 1 in the fire hall. President Kathleen Campbell welcomed the members and led in the opening prayer and 55ers Song.

Secretary Carol Ann Johnson read last month’s minutes and treasurer Dolly Tortola gave the financial report. Both reports were approved as read.

Regular activities are all busy. Bingo will again take place March 10 at 1:30 at the fire hall. Tuesday afternoon Cribbage organizers will teach the game to any members wishing to learn to play. Sunday evening 45s is growing steadily in numbers and is open to the public beginning at 7:30 p.m. each week. Bowling is played on Wednesday morning.

Announceme­nts

In preparing to raise funds for the new club facility the club will be selling tickets on a lotto tree in the Highland Square March 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; also available will be a bake table and a book sale table. Gently used clothing and other items will be sold at the May meeting.

Pharma Care program will have no changes in its program until 2017- 2018.

Fesna will host a roast beef dinner at the New Glasgow Legion open to everyone, followed by a members meeting.

Plans are now being made for the Club’s summer bus trip. More informatio­n to follow.

Afternoon draws were won by Diana Gay and Margaret Craig. Kathleen thanked M. Craig, Dot Thomas and Ronnie Gay for volunteeri­ng lunch for the April meeting.

Afternoon Speakers were from Crime Prevention, Sr. Safety Co-ordinator Barb Smith and Const. Ken MacDonald, New Glasgow Police Department. Scams that shocked the members were: PC Points Password; Revenue Canada; Heartbreak Scam “Love in all the wrong Places.”

Gifts given by Barb were won by: Dolly Tortola, Dot Thomas, Dorothy Simpson, Betty Jennex, Jane Ivany, June MacLellan and Carol Phalen.

President Kathleen thanked the speakers on behalf of the members and presented a small appreciati­on gift to both Ken and Barb.

The next meeting will be held on April 5 at 1:30 p.m.

The afternoon ended with a delicious buffet luncheon honouring the March Irish babies, now 55+ Members.
