Garnier to remain in custody until April

-

The man accused of killing an off-duty Truro police officer will remain behind bars until a bail revocation hearing is held April 4 and 5.

Christopher Calvin Garnier, 28, appeared in provincial court in Halifax Friday morning on a charge of breaching his bail-release conditions.

The April dates were set after his lawyer requested an adjournment.

Garnier is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Catherine Campbell, originally from Stellarton. He is also charged with interfering with a dead body following the discovery of her remains in September 2015 in a recycling bin near the Macdonald Bridge in Halifax.

Garnier was granted bail in December. One of his conditions was that he present himself at his door whenever police came to check on him.

His release was revoked, however, after Halifax police said they could not locate Garnier during repeated checks at his Bedford apartment on Feb. 17 and 18.

They then contacted Cape Breton Regional Police who said they were also unsuccessful in locating Garnier at a second location in Millville, Boularderie Island, where he was also permitted to be.

He was subsequently arrested at that residence by the Cape Breton Police on Feb. 18 and charged with three counts of breaching his release conditions.
