Dancers fare well in winter competitions
The 2017 Highland dance competition season has begun and Pictou County dancers are off to a busy and successful start. The Halifax Winter Competition was held on Feb. 4 and was judged by Carolyn Dunn of Saskatoon. The results for Pictou County dancers are as follows:
Intermediate 11 & Under – Lauren Hiltz: Fling 3rd, Sean Truibhas 3rd, Laddie 3rd.
Premier 11 – Annika Murray: Fling 4th, Sean Truibhas 1st, Laddie 1st, Hornpipe 2nd, High aggregate trophy winner. Amelia Parker: Sean Truibhas 6th, Hornpipe 6th.
Premier 16 & Over – Emma Hines: Fling 2nd, Sean Truibhas 2nd, Laddie 2nd, Hornpipe 2nd, 1st Runner-Up trophy winner. Allyson Parker: Fling 5th, Sean Truibhas 6th, Laddie 6th, Hornpipe 7th.
Special Event Cake Walk 13 & Over – Emma Hines and Annika Murray: 3rd.
The Colchester Highland Dance Association held their 39th Annual Winter Competition on Feb. 11. Jennifer Worthen of Dartmouth judged the event. The results for local dancers are:
Beginner 7 – Hannah Fleury: Sword 8th.
Beginner 8, 9 & 10 – Olivia Wilson: Fling 1st, Sean Truibhas 2nd.
Novice 9 &10 – Penelope Brown: Sword 5th, Lilt 5th.
