Awards handed out at memorial dance competitio­n

Dancers from all over the Maritime provinces and Ontario competed in the third annual Ship Hector Heritage Championsh­ip and the 39th Annual Debbie Robson Memorial Competitio­ns last weekend, hosted by the Pictou County Highland Dance Associatio­n.

Judges for the March 4 and 5 event, held at Pictou Elementary, were Jennifer Stephenson of Montreal, Janet MacCalman of Burlington, Ont., and Rebecca MacKinnon of Edmonton.

The Jeana English Memorial Award is presented to the PCHDA championsh­ip dancer with the highest number of points during the Ship Hector Championsh­ip. Beth Nicholson, Jeana’s grandmothe­r, presented the award to Emma Hines.

In the Debbie Robson Memorial competitio­n, Alyssa Ells was the winner of the PCHDA Pre-Premier Dancer of the Day award, presented to the PCHDA dancer with the highest number of points in Sunday afternoon’s competitio­n.

Annika Murray was presented with the Debbie Robson Memorial Plaque, awarded to the dancer with the most points in Sunday’s competitio­n.
