Matthew Joseph Bernard, 52 of Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away March 15, 2017, at home. Born in Framingham, Massachuse­tts, he was a son of Mary Gladys Bernard.

Matthew was a resident of Pictou Landing First Nation for the past 25 years having previously resided in Truro and Massachuse­tts. He worked at many trades during his life, loved his children and grandchild­ren, enjoyed hunting, fishing, long drives with his children and spending time with his grandkids whom he was very proud of.

Surviving besides his mother Mary Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nation, are his children, Matthew Paul, Pictou Landing First Nation; Larissa Paul, Indian Brook; Latisha Paul, Indian Brook; three grandchild­ren, Lyam, Sandra and Riley; sisters, Kelly Martin, Arizona; Cynthia Bernard, Dartmouth; godmother, Bernadette Bernard.

He was predecease­d by his maternal grandparen­ts, William and Annie (Syliboy) Bernard, several aunts and uncles.

His remains will rest at Our Lady of Perpetual Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation, for visiting after 2 p.m. Saturday from where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3 p.m. Monday with Father Tom MacNeil presiding. Cremation to follow with burial of ashes at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
