Keith Armstrong MacFarlane

After a courageous battle with thymic cancer, Keith Armstrong MacFarlane of Trenton, Ont., died on March 12, 2017, in his home with his wife of 51 years, Judy, by his side.

Keith was born on Feb. 6, 1942, to Annie, a school teacher, and Jimmy, a lobster fisherman, in Three Brooks, Nova Scotia, where he lived until he joined the Air Force.

Keith married the love of his life, Judy James in 1966 in New Glasgow, N.S. Keith and his family were stationed at Greenwood, N.S.; Summerside, P.E.I.; Baden, Germany; and Trenton, Ont., where Keith retired in 1994. Keith loved to spend time with his family and capitalized on each of their postings: camping and front yard hockey rinks in P.E.I.; skiing the Alps and touring Europe in a custom van; and, waterskiing in Weller’s Bay with the kids and all their friends.

Keith’s greatest gift was how he treated everyone he met with the same kindness and respect. He formed friendships and lasting relationships, and found the good in everyone around him. Even to the end, Keith was kind and appreciative.

He was a master story-teller yet he hated public speaking; he was quick-witted but never mean. And he loved to laugh – how we will all miss that laugh.

Keith is survived by his wife, Judy MacFarlane of Trenton, Ont.; his brother, Frank MacFarlane of Three Brooks; his children: Pam Davidson of Halifax, Kim (Tazman) MacFarlane of California, Trevor (Sheri) MacFarlane of Calgary, Jason (Monique) MacFarlane of Toronto and Jennifer (Kerry) MacFarlane also of Toronto; and his six beautiful grandchildren: Liam, Curtis, Callum, Elliot, Samantha and Riley. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ivan.

The family would like to thank all of Keith’s friends, near and far, for providing him with so much joy on the ice, the ski hill, the golf course and in the backyard. A celebration of Keith’s life will be held in the spring.
