Dr. Caroline Carmichael IODE meets

President Joan Fraser opened the March meeting of the Dr. Caroline Carmichael IODE by repeating the Lord’s Prayer and motto. Secretary Isabel Campbell read minutes from the last meeting and took roll call.

The beans and brown bread sale will be delivered on April 8 with all orders to be confirmed with Jean Arsenault by March 30. Campbell booked stores for ticket sales on a gift card tree beginning April 30 through May 20. Members are asked to sign up for two hours shifts. Times for a coffee party celebratin­g Canada’s 150th are tentative for June.

Thank yous were received from Roots for Youth, Kids First, The New Glasgow Music Festival and Good Samaritan Fund. Founder’s Day will be celebrated with Sir. Frederick Banting and Truro IODE Chapters. The dates are to be confirmed.

Campbell gave a favourable report for treasurer Jean Arsenault. Services officers Sharon Livingston and Vergie Gerrior reported receiving more knitted goods for two knitters, Ethel Porter and the group’s 20-year knitter, Bernice Rickey. They women are appreciate­d members of the IODE. Phoebe Fraser and Isabel Campbell reported favours were completed and given to Meals on Wheels.

A special presentati­on was made by the membership officer, Jeannie Johnston to Fraser, who has been an IODE member in Dr. Caroline Carmichael Chapter for 25 consecutiv­e years. Fraser was presented with 26 flowers and a 25-year pin as well as lots of warm congratula­tions.

Helen Cruikshank, education officer, gave a commendabl­e report with many drawings and thank yous from the Grade 1 class in Labrador. Committee in April will be Sharon Livingston and Jeannie Johnston and the meting will be held April 11 at 7 p.m. at the UCT hall.
