Scotians series now tied at two
Up by two games in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs, the Pictou County Scotians let the Junior Miners stay in the race for the Sid Rowe Division, the Miners winning both games this weekend to tie the series at two games apiece.
On Sunday in Trenton, Jacob Pentz scored the only goal in the team’s 4-1 loss.
Coach Al Whidden said it was a tight match like the other games against the Miners.
Then around the eightminute mark in the third period, the Miners put the puck past goalie Brandon MacDonald to make the score 3-1. “After that, the team totally lost composure and took a lot of penalties, and eliminated any chance of us coming back,” said Whidden.
Robert Burrows was assessed nine minutes worth of penalties for interference, fighting and being an aggressor after an altercation with a Miners player, plus a 10-minute game misconduct. This was followed by Gaetan Tremblay getting two minutes for roughing, Brendon Duff taking a four-minute penalty for spearing, Tremblay getting a 10-minute misconduct and Kale Mason receiving two minutes for roughing along with 10 minutes for misconduct.
On Saturday in Membertou the Scotians were defeated 4-2. Burrows scored late in the second period to make it 2-1, and Duff tied it up about five minutes into the third period. The Miners added a tally of their own with three minutes to go in the game and then added an empty net goal.
“We’re looking to regroup and have a better effort tomorrow night,” said Whidden.
Game five in the best of seven Sid Rowe Division final takes place in Membertou on Tuesday, with game six on Wednesday back in Trenton at 7 p.m.
