Pee Wee A Subway Selects take home gold

The third annual Spring Thaw Female Hockey Tournament was golden for the Pictou County Pee Wee A Subway Selects.

The Selects defeated the host Colchester Cyclones team 4-1 to win their division in the tournament. Olivia Marks led the team with two goals in the victory, with singles from Frankie Hayman and Lucia Mason. Anna Stewart, Jessa MacKeil and Raleigh MacDonald got assists, while player of the game honours went to goalie Kylee Alexander.

In the first game at the Debert Arena on Thursday, the Selects won 5-0 against the Halifax Metro West girls. Scoring for the Selects were Camryn Wright and Marks with two goals each, and one from Anna Stewart. Assists were recorded by Taylor Decoste, Hayman and Mason. Player of the game was Wright.

On Friday, two games were played at the Brookfield Arena. The first game they were defeated 2-0 by the Truro Cyclones. Player of the game was Jana Cameron.

In an exciting second game of the day, the Selects were trailing 1-0 against the Queens County Western Riptide. With 52 seconds left in the game, Taylor Toole tied the game with an assist by MacKeil. The winning goal was scored by Marks, assisted by Wright, with only 23 seconds remaining in the game, resulting in a final score of 2-1 for the Selects. Marks was named player of the game.

The tournament involved 19 teams participat­ing in four divisions – Atom A, Pee Wee A, Bantam A and Midget AA.
