Province considerin­g Pictou offer on VIC

The Pictou building that housed a visitor’s informatio­n centre for many years, may open its doors again this season for the same purpose.

The province, which currently owns the building, has confirmed that it received an offer from the Town of Pictou to purchase it, but nothing has been decided yet.

Destinatio­n Northumber­land and Eastern Shores has been operating its VIC in the building for the past two seasons after the province decided it would no longer house a tourist centre there.

Cindy MacKinnon, manager of DEANS, said her group in partnershi­p with the town plans to pursue this further with the

province to see what can be done to get the VIC open again this summer.

“We will need to check with Transporta­tion and see what its thoughts are because we need to know next month what we are going to do about staff,” she said.
