Stellarton police looking for person who lost large sum of money

-

Stellarton Police is looking for a person who lost a “considerable” amount of money near the Royal Bank.

In late January 2017, a citizen found money on Foord Street and turned it in to police.

Const. Chris Pond said it was a large sum and having this much turned in is uncommon.

“It’s a large enough quantity if someone lost it, they’d want it back.”

Police have spoken to the bank, Pond said, and no one reported it missing.

If someone believes it may belong to them, they can contact Pond at the Stellarton Police at 902-752-6160 with proof they lost it, such as the amount lost, the denominations, what the money was contained in, or a bank statement showing the withdrawal.

Stellarton Police Chief Don Hussher said that as of Friday no one had come forward.

“I don’t know if the people realize they lost it or not,” he said.

He said if the money is not claimed within a year then it will go to the person who found it. When someone turns in an item, the finder usually has the right to keep it after a year if it isn’t claimed. Often with property, the town ends up having to dispose of it. With money, Hussher was quite sure the finder would be willing to keep it.
