DNA evidence to be allowed in retrial of accused in teen’s death
WINNIPEG – A judge says DNA evidence will be allowed at the retrial of a man accused of killing a teenage girl in Winnipeg more than three decades ago. Mark Grant is charged with seconddegree murder in the death of 13-yearold Candace Derksen.
The teen vanished on her way home from school in November 1984 and was found tied up and frozen to death in a shed nearly two months later.
Justice Karen Simonsen, who is hearing the case without a jury, also dismissed a defence request for a stay of proceedings.
