Fundy Highland Peewee AA Selects score silver at provincial championship

-

The Peewee AA Fundy Highland Subway Selects are sporting silver medals after what their coach called a “hard-fought battle” in the provincial championship Sunday morning.

Metro West Force Blue outscored the local team 4-2 at the Hector Arena in Pictou, taking home the banner.

“I’m a little disappointed for them, but I know they had a great tournament,” said coach Bryan Smith.

“And they’re a wonderful bunch of kids, and hopefully they can get over the loss and move on. They got a lot of good times ahead of them coming and hopefully they learned some this year they can take with them,”

Jaylen Langille started off the scoring for the Selects, with Metro’s Avery Walsh bringing it to a tie later in the first period. Sarah Miller and Hayden Lilly each netted a goal on the power play in the second to give the lead to Metro.

Madison Beson snuck a goal past Metro goalie Lucy Phillips in the third, after Jazlyn Wincey increased Metro’s lead.

The Selects won three and tied one game during the tournament.

Smith said the weekend was full of good hockey, noting their opponent in the championship game won their matchup on Saturday with an overtime goal.

He said it was a competitive season, noting the high level of play with all seven teams in the league.

“It’s great to work with a bunch of kids that are dedicated and motivated and work with a great group of parents and assistant coaches that are all on board.”
