Don’t get trolled

Before the 2017 NBA all-star game, Cleveland Cavs’ Kyrie Irving said (we’ll paraphrase) Earth is flat, since that’s what it looks like to him.

Lebron James (with a straight face) commented, “Kyrie is a very interesting guy,” and later said, “If he decides the Earth is flat, that’s OK.”

Kyrie’s arch-rival from the Golden State Warriors, Draymond Green, added, “I haven’t done enough research, but it may be flat.” The story went viral.

Kyrie’s fellow players are still laughing at how Kyrie trolled the press, proving once again that some people will fall for anything.

So when people tell you there’s no such thing as safe vaccines, don’t get trolled. (A vaccine’s benefit is at least 40,000 times greater than its risk for causing serious disease.) Here are the most recent notable changes to the adult (19 and up) vaccination schedule from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

● HPV: Women through age 26 and men through age 21 who began HPV vaccination before age 15 and received two doses at least five months apart don’t need another dose.

● Hepatitis B: People with chronic liver disease, including hepatitis C, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis and liver enzyme levels greater than twice the upper limit of normal should receive a HepB series.

● Adults with an egg allergy that triggers hives can take an inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) or recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV). Anyone with more severe reaction to eggs can get the vaccines, but only when administered by a clinician experienced in managing severe allergic reactions.
