Art displays leading up to big event in May.
A Stellarton coffee shop is serving up some art later this month.
King of Cups on Foord Street is holding two art show and sales over the two weekends leading up to Art At Night, a one-night festival taking part in different venues in downtown New Glasgow May 6.
“This is something we thought about doing before we even opened. We wanted to incorporate community art into our space,” said co-owner Shannon MacDonald.
The owners, Shannon and Jason MacDonald who are both artists, connected with artist Tim Fisher through Creative Pictou County and displayed his work for a little while and have since contacted other artists in the community.
Shannon said they thought it was important to reach out to the artist community and give people a space to show their work.
Christina MacLeod, one of the artists whose work will be displayed during the first Coffee and Canvas event on April 22, said it’s hard to find places to show work, adding that the artists involved have been trying to find a space for a few months but hadn’t previously been able to find somewhere free.
“To pay for that space to show our work is not something
we can do, so we really appreciate what Jay and Shannon are doing. It means a lot,” MacLeod said.
MacLeod, who said she’s “always kind of dabbled in (art) but really started going strong with it in September,” is one of
four artists who will adorn the walls of the coffee house.
Joining MacLeod’s abstract acrylic paintings will be work from Fisher on April 22, beginning at 7 p.m.
Artists PaX? (Gord MacDonald) and Walrus (Saje MacLeod)
will show their work on April 29, beginning at 7 p.m.
Both shows will be for one night only with the work for sale.
Coffee will also be available for patrons to pay what they can.
