Have a bathroom to yourself for this test

- Kathy Golemiec Kathy Golemiec is undergoing cancer treatments and writes about her experiences each week.

So how was your week? Mine was one of those here a pain, there a pain, only every day it seems like you add a different place to the day before. But you can never really say which place hurts the most.

I guess I had a fever last night, and it broke because I had to change my PJ’s four times thought the night and they were soaked. I had a bit of a sore throat but I got out my neti pot and that helped make it better.

I took a friend over to the hospital this week for a rectal scope. I’ve had this test done before. I had to get a few polyps cut out (they are like lumps far inside the intestine). The worst thing about this test is getting ready for it the day before, you drink the worst stuff you ever tasted and within a few minutes you were running to the washroom. You have to drink it four to five different times, the last one five hours before your test, and by the time of the test you should be cleaned right out.

You are not to have warfarin or aspirin for a week to make sure you don’t bleed a lot if they have to do work while they are in there. Before they started my test they put the gas mask on me and told me to count. I started and I was out cold at 2. I was in the recovery room. Lori and Vada came to the hospital to get me, and Vada asked Lori why are we sitting at the hospital waiting for Nanny to have a nap, ha. When I woke and got off the bed and went out the side door another doctor came along and took me back in the recovery room and said to the nurse, “Did you lose someone, I found her wandering down the hall.”

Everything went OK for my friend’s test. So if you have to get this test done don’t be afraid, just make sure you have a bathroom to yourself the day before.

I went in to see if the doctor got my wrist X-rays back yet and, sure enough, it showed arthritis deep in the thumb. There is actually a very small joint in there, so I asked the doctor if she would give me a cortisone shot in it and she said no way, it was too small a joint so she was going to get a surgeon to do it.

Pain-wise this week I’m about an 8, that’s not good.

I ran into my friend Cookie today and she gave me inspiration. It’s like a boot in the bum without the footprint, ha. I really needed that. \ Thanks Cookie.

My Secret Sewer sent me a beautiful Easter egg to hang in the window all year, and tea cozies. And the bracelet and necklace are beautiful, thank you every much.

Thank you for all the letters and gifts this week they are very much appreciated. Weight-wise – 141, woohoo. The water and sugar… I didn’t make it through this week either, I’ll try again next week.

Dad and Janet were over this weekend to help me with the flea market.

On the next feeling good day I will get out and rake the front yard. I’m sure glad it’s very small.

Tip of the week: Remember we all want to live a long time but really in the big picture life is short so make the best of it. Remind your loved ones that you love them. As long as you’re having a happy life, it doesn’t matter how long it is, it seems like a long time.

A lady asked me in a letter if my mother was Doctor Phyllis Golemiec, who went to university with her. Yes its is the same Phyllis Golemiec, she passed away six years ago. She was the greatest mother, and a very smart lady, I miss her very much.

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that spring is finally here and we will start having nice weather.

I have a constant ringing in my ears. It comes with age, but when everything is quiet it is even stronger. When I go to bed I set the timer on my TV so that it will go off after I have fallen asleep.

Well have a great week folks… and yes the June bugs are out.
