Westville Heritage Group looks to summer activities
Members stood to sing O Canada and the Heritage Song and together recited the Seniors Prayer. President Nellie Bruton brought the meeting to order. This month, Marlyn Lockhart celebrates a birthday. Members sang the birthday song to her. In secretary Mary Livingstone’s absence, Julia Dorrington read the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer Mary Morris presented her report. Both were approved as presented.
All activities are going very well, and things are starting to wind down as summer approaches.
Correspondence received was notification that the group’s insurance is in effect for another year. Pictou New Horizons club has invited other clubs in Pictou County to take part in a day of card games, scavenger hunt, line dancing demonstration, and a barbecue. The day reserved for this event is May
27. There will be a $10 registration fee.
Nellie encouraged members to report those who might be house bound or in hospital so a card of encouragement can be sent. Fun day will not be held this month as Nordic Walking will be demonstrated on the 15th. Closing dinner will take place at St. Andrews, Westville, and the date will be determined later. Allan O’Brien will provide the music.
Nellie reminded the group of the up coming quilt show in the Westville Civic Centre on May
27. Special speaker was Jennifer De Wolfe from Eastern Mainland Housing Authority on the availability of grants and loans for seniors. The following grant and loan programs are offered through housing Nova Scotia, designed to help low-income seniors and families maintain their homes. The first two programs are specifically targeted to those at least 65 years of age.

Julia Dorrington provided members with a commentary about her recent visit to Vimy Ridge.
Next meeting will be held on June 5 in the Heritage Room. Special Speaker will be Barb Smith, Pictou County Municipalities Crime Prevention coordinator.
