Fraser to represent Pictou East Liberals in the provincial election

-

John Fraser will be the Pictou East candidate in the upcoming provincial election.

“As the representative for Pictou East, I will work to retain our young people and create opportunities for employment and economic growth,” said Fraser. “I will build on the strengths of our rural communities and promote our local industries such as our fisheries, agriculture and forestry.”

Fraser is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. After university, he worked in forestry, produced tires at Michelin, and spent 10 years at Hawker-Siddeley as forge master. He returned to St. F.X. for his B.Ed. in 1988 and spent 25 years teaching senior high at both East Pictou and North Nova before retiring in 2014.

Fraser is a lifelong resident of Pictou County. He and his wife Sally raised six children, including Central Nova’s Member of Parliament, Sean Fraser.

The Nova Scotia Liberal party dropped Pictou East candidate Matthew MacKnight on Monday over revelations he’d allegedly made inappropriate comments on social media.

A news release from campaign chair Chris MacInnes said the “highly inappropriate” comments from Pictou East candidate Matthew MacKnight were brought to his attention Monday. MacInnes did not say what the comments were, but said they were unacceptable and run contrary to the values of the party.
