55+ Club planning Mahone Bay trip

The monthly meeting of the 55+ Club, New Glasgow was held on May 3 in the NG Fire hall. President Kathleen Campbell presided and welcomed everyone. The meeting opened in the usual form with members standing to recite the Seniors Prayer and 55ers song.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The financial report for the month was given by Dolly Tortola and approved as read.

All activities are busy and have room for more players. A new member was welcomed Colleen Potter. Shuffleboa­rd will be discontinu­ed for the time being.

The club bus trip will be June 19 to Halifax and Mahone Bay. Tickets may be purchased from Cecilia Ramsey. The annual spring dinner will be in Plymouth Fire Hall June 10 at 6 p.m., dance to follow.

Members continue fundraisin­g: fashion show June 7 at 1:30; barbecue at Sobeys Westside on June 22 and 23

Treasurer Dolly Tortola resigned effect June 7; incoming treasurer is June MacLellan.

Winners of the afternoon prizes were Phyllis Weaver and Cecilia Ramsey; winning the baskets were: Terry Peters, Janet Bye, Jane Ivany, Theresa Kenny. The Club donated many boxes of books to the diabetes truck collection.

Following the business meeting, Holly MacLean spoke about the New Glasgow Library programs and gave a short demo on laugh yoga.

Lunch followed. Next meeting June 7 at the fire hall. A barbecue will complete the afternoon.
