Thistle Quilt Guild hosting show this weekend
Members of the Thistle Quilt Guild members will hold their 15th annual quilt show at the Westville Civic Centre on Saturday.
With a theme of “Canada Is Our Home,” it will be a celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
The 71 members in the guild expect to have more than 400 articles on display, including finished quilts, seasonal articles and smaller items such as wall hangings, placemats, decorated tea towels, with the displayed articles only shown once.
A Christmas tree with dozens of handmade decorations in red and white will also be on exhibited in honour of Canada’s birthday.
The show provides a lunchroom where those attending can sit and enjoy tea in China cups, along with sweet loaves and cookies. The room is decorated with quilts and tea cozies.
Raffle tickets will be available for a maple leaf quilt handmade by members over the winter months.
The members usually meet on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month to sew together.
The guild also subsidizes workshops throughout the year, featuring local and out-ofprovince instructors. The members also use their skills to make items for charities.
The quilt show will take place May 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5.
